DOLOROSA THE RUNAWAY SLAVE The legendary Dolorosa was one of the many slaves who escaped Brazil's central Savanna. They fled the gold mines of Goias in the 18th century for rugged hill country above Bezerra Falls on the Parana River. Today, about 4,000 descendants live in 41 villages scattered over 780 square miles. Her spirt is said to haunt the bank of the Parana River where she was drowned by her jilted lover.
